Running the New ChanCam

For our fiber experiment, we put a new ZWO camera in place of the old ChanCam. That requires some new software that is not described in the document about co-phasing on the wiki (Co-phasing with the CHARA phase reference ).

Step 1: Plug in the power to the camera (see the attached photo).

  • We usually leave it off because it produces heat and blows air.
  • To turn it on, plug in the black power cable and make sure the LED is on.
  • Hold the camera while you do this, it can rotate easily.

Step 2: Run the server.

  • Log into the tiptilt computer as user observe (ssh -XY observe@tiptilt), then type:
  • zwo_server_ASI294 -O CHAN

Step 3: Run the GUI.

  • Log into the tiptilt computer again and type:
  • zwogtk_ASI294 CHAN

The new ASI294 camera produces pretty big images that can overload the messaging system. This means that the connection between client and server will break annoyingly often. If the GUI stops showing new images, hit REOPEN and START CAM again.
