The Center for High Angular Resolution Astronomy (CHARA) at Georgia State University (GSU) is seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Associate. CHARA operates the CHARA Array, an optical/IR, long baseline interferometer located at Mount Wilson Observatory (www.chara.gsu.edu). We are planning a re-design and the construction of the CLIMB beam combiner using a new, low noise detector, and the postdoctoral associate would be involved in all facets of this initiative, including optical design, implementation, installation of the new camera, and development of software for instrument control and data reduction.

This position is fully supported for three years. The workplace will be the Mount Wilson Observatory north of Los Angeles.  The majority of effort will be devoted to the CLIMB project, but the associate will be encouraged to pursue independent research with the CHARA Array interferometer.

Applicants should have the following basic qualifications:
1) Ph.D. in astronomy, physics, or closely related field;
2) expertise in instrument development and/or interferometry;
3) evidence of the ability to work in a collaborative effort, and
4) a working knowledge of GNU/Linux and C-programming.

Applications should include:
1) a CV, including a publication list,
2) a statement of the candidate's research interests and how the research fits into the work of the CHARA Array, and
3) contact information for at least three references.

Questions regarding the position can be addressed to Dr. Theo ten Brummelaar (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or Dr. Douglas Gies (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

Applications received by November 1, 2019, will receive full consideration.
An offer of employment will be conditional on background verification.
